BRANCHING OUT; COMMUNITY OUTREACH AND ROOTS

September 4, 2012

TEAM BUILDING

To manage a Kickstarter campaign will require a lot of web and e-mail work.  Swag must be ordered, inventoried, and delivered.  Finances have to be recorded and controlled.  Technical work has to go on without being bogged down in this administrative work.  I am asking for help here in Wheatland.

Initially I invited our pastor and Tim Bendel of Frontier astronautics to dinner for talks about the local economy.  Our small ventures may bring life to the local economy and the families who live here.  I got the construction crews moving enough to make the house presentable.  Then I went to work on cleaning and cooking.

With the lights on, this house looks like a UFO landing at night.  Perhaps the owners were afraid of the darkness.  That sure leaves the area when I light up the outdoor lighting.  The sheriff stopped to see what all the glare was about!  Inside there was a good pot of stew brewing for the meal.  I browned the roast on the barbeque before I cubed it smaller to pan-fry.  A dash of Balsamic dressing and Mrs. Dash added to the mystery of my secret brew.

Pastor Geoff is of British stock, and brought a proper tea service to cover my ignorance.  Imagine the horror; I suggested Earl Grey tea!  My ignorance was based on Captain Picard of the enterprise of course.  Shouldn’t I have been suspicious of a Frenchman who has a Shakespearian accent?  Or who plays Royal Navy on the hollodeck?  Well, he set that straight!

The conversation was rewarding, and may even produce some street signs to help people find Wheatland’s downtown district.  No street signs???  The stew caused no casualties, and folks took some home out of courtesy probably.  The dog even got a taste, and developed no immediate symptoms of distress.

Today I generated some recruiting notes for the newspapers and local poster service.  I edited it seven times before it was short enough.  I talk a lot!  The message is reduced from three to one page now.  We should see fewer people falling asleep in front of the bulletin boards now.

We contacted the Civil Air Patrol and Lt Col Susan McDonald and cadets are interested in the project.  The local chamber of commerce and community development centers are supportive.  We are gathering a group and resumes to guide our Kickstarter presentation.  Wheatland Wyoming is a good location for community support it seems.
