SCHOOL’S OUT FOREVER…NOT!

SCHOOLS OUT FOREVER?

That was an interesting song, but really a bad idea.  School is back in session and it will stay that way forever.  You can learn at school, but make sure the student loans will really pay you back.  For some of us bad decisions put us in a different school; hard knocks.  I have seen that we can get answers here, but it is a long slow process.

Once we have a job and a family learning is done on your own time.  The internet offers a lot of information, but as Abraham Lincoln noted; it isn’t all accurate.  Still one can observe what others are doing and select from the more successful ventures for ideas.  One may gather experience from their career path if it follows technology and manufacturing.  Again some firms demonstrate how to use technology to self destruct.  The time you spend learning mistakes doesn’t add to your credibility so you wait for the right answer

Now if you ask the right questions, you might get some right answers.  With few credentials you may have good answers and no buyers.  The only way to sell the good stuff is to make it work; you have to have the hardware working.  Guys with credentials can make it work better, but they want to see the cash.  If you can get it working moderately well it might be enough to interest more support.

Finding others who actually build stuff that works can help if the price is not severe.  If it is their dream you may find a receptive audience.  For me school has been back in session on the horizontal launch vision.  This summer has been invested in generating new ideas for new ventures.  Wyoming farms enjoyed lots of rain, and we enjoyed a good crop year in space technology too.

The harvest is in.  We have a bumper crop and it will be delivered to Texas soon.  We have some potential to build hardware there, but part of the answer may be here in Wyoming too.  I have to spend some time at Frontier Astronautics in Chugwater Wyoming.  I need to learn a bit more about propulsion from Tim Bendel and his crew there.  I will be going to rocket school.  http://frontierastronautics.com/

In Texas I will add classes in airframes and new space business.  With a variety of new designs we are targeting some serious hardware.  This summer was spent on the computer, with little time for the natural beauty of Wyoming.  I am happy to report that Siemens NX software has made the effort rewarding.  Now I have to plan and pack for another road trip and some time in the mountains along the way.

THE WYOMING NAVY

My wardrobe includes a Navy surplus black shirt which is a wool-polyester blend.  It welcomes sunshine and holds the warmth on these cold days.  It has big button down pockets and looks like I spent the whole day ironing.  This is the last place I can get good made in America quality.  So, while Wyoming doesn’t have vast seas, I break this out when the moisture does appear.  For Wyoming operations a big hat keeps the snow and rain off my glasses.  Hence, this is the “Wyoming navy” look.  But then Tim Bendel of Frontier Astronautics likes the “Wyoming Space Mafia” look of the black hat too, so we are in uniform now; ready to set sail..for warmer climates!
